Real-World Physical Movement is at the heart of our practice. This is dynamic, connective, energising, integrating, liberating, mind-stretching, joyous movement, and there’s nothing quite like enjoying it with others. Especially with others who can respect you, your body and your skill level.

Doing it regularly has all sorts of benefits, way too many to list here, and some can be really unexpected, in a good way!

In Isshinkai, some of us have regularly travelled long distances to join practice, and some have been lucky enough to find it almost on our doorstep.

Twice a week is an ideal minimum, so if you can get to a Dojo, talk to the Instructor about your plan for attendance. Some of our more distant members follow programmes of Virtual Dojo participation, regular solo practice and regular but more spaced attendance, sometimes even as far apart as once a month. Some groups have started that way!

It’s worth remembering that regular time on the mat with fellow students under the guidance of an experienced and highly skilled Isshinkai Teacher will dramatically accelerate your progress. And, there’s no way around the fact that the more you put in, the more you get out!
