Dynamic Relaxation Technique

Dynamic Relaxation Technique is at the heart of what Isshinkai offers. Applicable to any part of your life, or all of it, this is a type of Relaxation active when ‘doing’ and ‘being’.

It releases hidden reservoirs of strength and resilience where and when it’s needed, not just when you stop. DRT is rooted in our Aikido, but you don’t have to do Aikido to benefit.

It is used in its own right, to boost work, sports, and life enjoyment and performance, or general wellbeing.

Aikido Isshinkai

Dynamic Relaxation also powers our Aikido, combining with “Aiki” its core principle, and Isshinkai methodology to create an extraordinarily effective form of personal development.

Our Aikido goes way beyond self-defence. It’s based on the embodiment of principles that can safely and beneficially be applied anywhwere, anytime, to any aspect of life.

Also known as “The Art of Peace”, it is a creative Art that recognises Peace as the ultimate expression of success.

Community

Isshinkai is an international community of people who share a belief in the values and philosophical approach as explained in our handbook “Purpose & Practice”.  All of us practise them in some way.  Some apply them in daily life and support what Isshinkai does, some also practise Dynamic Relaxation Technique using our Virtual Dojo Sessions, and many of us root our study in the regular physical practice of Isshinkai Aikido.  We look on all this as a form of further education: learning, in a non-haphazard way, some of the most important life-skills often not learnt effectively in schools, colleges and universities.

We make Dynamic Relaxation Technique as widely available as we can, and do not require people who are benefitting from DRT Practice to be Members of Isshinkai. However, we do offer some forms of Membership suitable for those who wish to be Members.

All those of us who practise Isshinkai Aikido do so under the direction and guidance of Denis Burke Sensei or with an approved Isshinkai Teacher under his guidance. Because of the power of this approach, this learning brings with it responsibilities; and so, as we say, whereas the love it is taught with is unconditional, being taught Isshinkai Aikido is not. Isshinkai students are expected to practise Isshinkai’s principles and values, respect etiquette and our rules of practice, and behave towards others consistently with the above. Within the first three sessions, all those attending any Isshinkai Dojo must hold a valid Isshinkai Membership. In this way, we do our best to guarantee that both the people we do it with and the quality of what we do, are safeguarded and valued.

Isshinkan organises and supports Isshinkai Aikido - and also offers training outside that context to share some of this value in other activities and life-challenges.  These include areas like sports performance, team building, organisational development, personal development, career development, education and training development, mental health and resilience, energy and balance. Check out our Experience Days page, our Events page or get started straight away in our Virtual Dojo.
